Emanuelle Oliveira & Christopher Monte Wedding – Nashville, TN

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Emanuelle & Christopher were married March 14, 2009 at the Assumption Church, in Historic Germantown. The reception was held at the University Club of Nashville, on the Vanderbilt Campus. Despite a little rain, the couple had a beautiful and memorable wedding day! It was such a pleasure to be a part of Emanuelle and Christopher’s joyful wedding celebration and my congratulations goes out to them! Below are a few of my favorite images from their perfect day!

The Beautiful & Irresistible Isis & Fossey!

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Isis and Fossey are the beloved cats of my dear and long standing friend Julie(who incidentally rescued and gave me my first cat Cleo). Julie and I became fast friends (14ish years ago) when we both lived in Minneapolis, MN. Shortly after becoming friends we then became roommates. Like all close friends, Julie and I connected on several different levels. One of the many things that we soon discovered we had in common was that we were both huge animal lovers, especially cat lovers. Since Julie had already adopted Isis, by the time we were roommates, I had the pleasure but not the responsibility of living with a pet. It didn’t take long before I fell in love Isis and her emerald colored eyes!

Fast forward a little bit. Julie decided she wanted to move back to Nashville to be closer to family. She then proceeded to convince me to move to Nashville, where the experience of spring is flowers blooming versus snow melting. The rest is all history! Anyway to make a long story short, Julie has enriched my life with her nurturing friendship for 14ish years now. Knowing how much she adores her two geriatric cats(Fossey was adopted a few years after Julie was back in Nashville), I decided to surprise her with an impromptu portrait session of her felines. Actually these photos were taken on the sly and have not yet been seen by my dear friend! Here’s to you sweet JuJu!  I hope that these photos, of your beautiful pets, make you smile!

Fossey has beautiful eyes too!

Isis has always had a great sense of humor. This photo was taken my first Christmas in Nashville (circa 1996). While the photo is not technically exceptional, it is not every day that you see a cat sitting in a Christmas tree!

Emanuelle & Christopher’s Engagment Session – Nashville, TN

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Emanuelle & Christopher make such a lovely couple! We had a wonderful time doing their engagement photos on the Vanderbilt Campus last week. The weather and light was absolutely amazing and we couldn’t have asked for better conditions. Below are a few of my favorite pictures from the lovely couple’s session!

Downtown – Nashville, TN

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Back in the day, when I first started taking photography classes, it was common for me to wander downtown Nashville with my camera and snap away. I loved exploring my surroundings and connecting with the people who managed to cross my path when doing so. The weather the past several days has been nothing short of spectacular and has given me the itch to get out and photograph! On Saturday I decided it was the perfect day for me to get out and shoot purely for my own pleasure, like I used to when I was new to photography. Most of the photos below where taken on or near Lower Broadway. I am amazed at how much Nashville has changed in the fourteen years that I have lived here. Now more than ever, I notice that downtown is a blend of the old with the new. I love the way the opposites seemingly complement one another! I think that a diverse and eclectic world is a much more interesting world…but that’s just me!

Here is my example of old and new buildings complementing one another!

I loved all of the modern elements in this shot and also gravitate to reflections in building windows.

downtownnashville-003.jpg

I wasn’t aware that Nashville had a Barbershop Harmony Society until I found this building!

James is man whom I chatted with briefly. He has been a horse trainer for fourteen years and loves what he does!

James is showing me his spurs here!

Signs on painted brick look like art to me! I believe that Gruhn Guitars was the first guitar shop that I ever visited when I first moved to Nashville.

The famous Ryman Auditorium!

What is one thing that comes to mind when thinking of Nashville? How about cowboy boots!!!

downtownnashville-006.jpg
I found this vibrant mural in an alley. I know that it is probably not the smartest idea for me to wander alleys alone, but it’s hard to resist when I find treasures like these!

downtownnashville-025.jpg

What is another thing comes to mind when thinking of Nashville? How about cowboy hats!!!

downtownnashville-007.jpg

I do not know this man’s name but he did give me permission to photograph him.

downtownnashville-008.jpg

It’s all about the lines and light!

downtownnashville-009.jpg

I have always loved photographing the “Batman Building!”

The Willie Wall that I think is so cool!

downtownnashville-030.jpg

The Willie Wall is looking a little weathered!

downtownnashville-028.jpg

Red is my favorite color for those who haven’t noticed! I love all things red…especially funky looking, half painted, neglected red walls with pieces of metal!

downtownnashville-035.jpg

I have always loved, loved, loved the Cash mural! My only regret is that I didn’t photograph it years ago, as much of the paint has peeled off.

downtownnashville-034.jpg

More of the Cash mural. I am intrigued by the message!

Spotted door with brick wall!

Dog that rides the horse drawn carriages on Lower Broadway! Looks like he has a tough job!

downtownnashville-017.jpg

Funky signs are everywhere on Lower Broadway!

downtownnashville-019.jpg

I saw three Elvis statues in the downtown area…I guess that’s what you get for being “the King!”
