Pentecostal Convention/Gathering – Nashville, TN
A photographer friend of mine recently loaned me his beloved Leica M3 Rangefinder camera for a few days last week. The M3 is a classic camera that was the same camera used by, one of my all time favorite photographers, Henri Cartier-Bresson. Everything on the camera is completely manual and there is no light meter, so it is totally old school, and I love it. One of the many wonderful things about the M3 is that it is very discreet, which makes it perfect for street photography. Last week while wandering around downtown Nashville, I stumbled upon a Pentecostal Convention. When I saw several men, standing outside of the Sommet Center, holding up signs with various messages, I had a profound sense of feeling that I was in the right place at the right time. All of the men holding the signs are homeless, at least to my knowledge. While I don’t know their stories, I do know that they were very sweet about me photographing them. Whether homeless or not, I think that we have all asked some if not all of these questions, at some point in our lives. The images below are my favorites from the one roll of 36 exposure film shot. I hope you enjoy looking at these images as much as I enjoyed the creation of them. Peace be with you!

I have never seen so many high heels in my life! I must say it surprised me to see this!

A pretty girl passing by was sweet enough to let me photograph her.

I couldn’t resist photographing these two!

More high heels!

I was just randomly searching for photo blogs tonight and found yours and I just have to leave a comment, so here are my random thoughts: These are really wonderful. The signs the men are holding up do really make me think. Was it fun shooting with such a cool camera—a Leica? Even the name Leica sounds cool! What is the deal with girls and high heels lately??!! I notice high heels more and more lately and I think they are so cute, but I have so much trouble wearing them because they hurt my feet immediately! The young lady in red and white—that is such a sweet photo! Oh and one last thought, I really love the work of Henri Cartier Bresson too.

Thank you, Brenda! Yes, shooting with a Leica is really cool. If you ever get the opportunity to shoot with one, I totally recommend you take advantage of it. Glad to hear you appreciate Henri Cartier Bresson! His work is really inspiring!
